Adams Update May 5, 2023

Teacher Appreciation Week!

What an amazing staff we have here at Adams Elementary--teachers, paraprofessionals, office staff, our building manager, and more. Thank you to everyone that is a part of the Adams Elementary team for all that you do for our students and their families. It was a fun week full of special treats and expressions of appreciation for our staff. Thank you to everyone that participated, and thank you SO MUCH to our staff!

What a Great Book Fair!

The Adams PTO Spring Book Fair was a great success! Adams families surpassed our goal of 1,400 books sold at the Spring Book Fair, as 1,520 books were purchased for Adams students, families, and classrooms! That is $12,160 in sales! Thank you to everyone who shopped at our spring fair. We love reading at Adams Elementary, and we hope everyone found a book that they love!

SEL Minute

Wow! As the calendar turns to May, and I reflect on all that we've done so far this school year, I am overwhelmed with the many amazing connections that have been made, and the growing SEL related skills of staff and students. I am truly grateful to be a part of our school community and look forward to all that is to come next year.

We are rounding out the school year by focusing on the SEL CASEL Competency of Responsible Decision Making. This competency focuses on our ability to make caring and constructive choices about our own behavior as well as participating in positive social interactions. We will be revisiting the Stop-Opt-Go strategy for making decisions, and exploring both positive and negative consequences. When we practice self and social awareness, along with utilizing self-management and relationship skills, we are equipping ourselves to make responsible choices. This is a wonderful process to learn during the elementary years, prior to entering the secondary world of middle school!

M-STEP Testing Continues

Each spring Michigan 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students take the M-STEP. Our 3rd grade classes are all done--great job Atoms! Next week 4th grade will take the English test on Thursday; 5th grade is taking the Math (Tuesday) and Social Studies tests (Thursday) next week, and then we will be done. As always, encourage your children to do their best, and reassure them to not worry about the test. There is no special way to prepare, other than attending school and doing a great job along the way. If you have any questions about the M-STEP, please reach out to your child's teacher or me.

Attention 2023-24 4th and 5th Graders: Join the Adams Robotics Team!

If you will be in the 4th or 5th grade in the upcoming, 2023-24 school year, we're looking for you! We have openings for interested students to participate in the Adams First Lego League (FLL) Robotics program next year.

You can learn more about FLL at their website: https://www.firstlegoleague.org/season.

The Explore experience is for students in grades 2-3, and the Challenge program is for grades 4-5. This program will start up in the fall, right after school starts.

Is your child interested? If so, please fill out the form below and let us know. We will also need parent mentors--teams cannot participate without parent mentors! If you are interested in filling that role, please note that on the form, as well.
